Mehdi Salehipour (Persian: مهدی صالحیپور) was a fifty-two-year-old electrical engineer in Karaj who cared for his fourteen-year-old son and elderly mother. On 12 Aban 1401 (3 November 2022), Hadis Najafi's fortieth day, he went to Behesht-e Sakineh cemetery. A video from that day shows him on the way, saying he wanted the song played if he died, because he meant to "contract the revolution."
Accounts published by IranianUK say he tried to help a wounded girl and was then shot seven times from behind; the family later found his leg had also been broken. Authorities reportedly returned the body after taking 250 million tomans and seizing his phone and car, while threatening the family to stay silent. He left a mother and a teenage son who still needed him.
That day crowds walked to Behesht-e Sakineh for the fortieth-day memorial of Hadis Najafi after security forces closed the roads to the cemetery, and BBC Persian reported live fire, sound bombs, tear gas and arrests. Several people were killed in Karaj that day, among them Mehran Shekari, Nima Nouri and Ali Abu Mohammad. Amnesty International's 2026 report Lives Cut Brutally Short lists Mehdi Salehipour, 52, killed on 3 November 2022 in Karaj, Alborz, with his photograph and a photograph of his grave, on the same page as Mehran Shekari and Nima Nouri Famour.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the opposition coalition led by the MEK, included him in a list of names published on 12 November 2022 with the date 9 November (18 Aban), and some later lists repeat that date; the cemetery account, the video from that day and Amnesty's record place his death on 12 Aban.
