Memorial story

Ali Roozbehani

Ali Roozbehani was born on 4 Aban 1366 / 26 October 1987 in Tehran and lived in Tehranpars with his brother Mohammad. He worked as a motorcycle courier. On his thirty-fifth birthday, 4 Aban 1401 / 26 October 2022, the fortieth memorial day for Jina (Mahsa) Amini, security forces shot him on Banihashem Street in Tehran. Pellet rounds struck his jaw, back, and spine. Emergency services refused an ambulance; his brother and friends carried him by taxi to Golestan Hospital. After about nine days of intensive care, during which authorities pressed the religious family to accept a Basij martyr narrative and withheld medical records from outside surgeons, he died on the night of 13 Aban 1401 / 4 November 2022. He is buried at Behesht Zahra, plot 222, row 81, number 45. At his fortieth memorial his father vowed not to forgive the person who finished him off, his sisters cut their hair in protest, and his brother told the crowd that anyone who faces guns with stones is backed by eighty million Iranians. Iran Pedia, Radio Farda, and Iran International corroborate the family account.
